Jamar was taken unresponsive to the the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital about 1:45 a.m. with bruising to his body, including on his stomach. He was being watched by his mother's boyfriend, who told police the boy had fallen down the stairs. The boy lived on the 7100 block of South Yates Boulevard on Chicago's South Side. An autopsy today showed that Jamar died of blunt force trauma and was a victim of child abuse. His death was ruled a homicide. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:07 a.m.
Richard McGill
41 years old
One man was killed and another wounded in a drive-by shooting on the 8200 block of South Muskegon Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood at about 2:20 a.m. this morning. The two men were sitting on a porch when a gunman rode up in what was believed to be a green Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The gunman then exited the car and fired shots at the men, striking them both in the legs. The gunman then got back into the vehicle and fled south from the scene. McGill was pronounced dead at 3:16 a.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The surviving victim, a 26-year-old man, was also taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

At about 4 a.m., police responded to a report of people shot to find one man fatally shot and another critically wounded early this morning on the Near West Side on the 2100 block of South Wood Street. When officers arrived, they found a man dead and a second male victim critically injured.
