9 Shot, 2 Dead Overnight

Since yesterday afternoon 9 people were shot in various places around the city. A man was shot a few blocks away from the M & K Store in East Garfield Park where 2 men were killed on Tuesday night (and where I was photographing yesterday), a biker in Logan Square was shot in the leg in a drive-by, a man was shot near a church in Lawndale, a 14-year-old girl was shot in a drive-by in the South Chicago neighborhood, and two teens were shot in Chicago Lawn.

Two men were killed and another wounded Wednesday afternoon in a shooting in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side that stemmed from an argument at a funeral. Police said the three shooting victims were attending a funeral when quarreling broke out among the mourners. About 1:30 p.m., the argument resumed, and the three victims were shot during a post-funeral gathering in the backyard of a residence on the 4700 block of South Forrestville Avenue. Police said the victims were gang-affiliated, but the person for whom the funeral was held was not.
