1520 N Damen: Day 1

Before

Yesterday after polishing off a few fish tacos and Rio Bravos at Big Star, I hesitantly began painting over the beautiful mural of the Zephyr girl at The Violet Hour at 1520 North Damen in preparation to install a version of Killing Season on the facade. My friends Rachel Esser and Liz Gray kindly helped me paint for the price of a few Violet Hour cocktails.

Rachel and I got started while Liz supervised and took pictures

Many passers by were upset with us for painting over the Zephyr girl

Almost there!

After

The Violet Hour is now sporting a new caution orange color. If you're in Wicker Park tomorrow stop by and say hello. I'll be there all day pasting the photographs to the facade.

Killing Season at Mess Hall

Here are some much overdue installation images of Killing Season at Mess Hall.

The images are displayed in a visual graph of the 103 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day of last summer and the 168 homicides that occured within that time frame. Each column represents a day and each image represents a person. The installation wrapped around the gallery taking up aproximately 50 feet of linear wall space. Repeated images denote that there were multiple people killed in that location.

I had about 5 minutes and an unfamiliar camera to take these pictures with, so I apologize for the poor quality. The website (coming soon) will give a much better look at this display.
