Killing Season Addendum

Please visit my new project blog Addendum. I am writing about my experiences and posting photos from my adventures as I embark on this new piece, an offshoot of Killing Season Chicago, made for specifically for Crime Unseen at the Museum of Contemporary Photography. The show will run from October 28th - January 15th. This addendum will be a data driven visual bar graph mirroring the homicides in 2010 during time period of the show.

I have some exciting news! Earlier this week I was interviewed by Lauren Viera from the Chicago Tribune about my 'Killing Season' installation at The Violet Hour. Killing Season at Mess Hall

Here are some much overdue installation images of Killing Season at Mess Hall.

The images are displayed in a visual graph of the 103 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day of last summer and the 168 homicides that occured within that time frame. Each column represents a day and each image represents a person. The installation wrapped around the gallery taking up aproximately 50 feet of linear wall space. Repeated images denote that there were multiple people killed in that location.

I had about 5 minutes and an unfamiliar camera to take these pictures with, so I apologize for the poor quality. The website (coming soon) will give a much better look at this display.

A Conversation About Violence

I'm going to be giving a talk this weekend at DePaul University about my Killing Season project that will be followed by a discussion about how to use the images and information in comunities and classrooms to educate youth about homicides in the urban environment.
